Latin music echoed throughout the Murray Function Room Thursday evening as the Boston College community came together to celebrate the start of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month.

Silence filled a crowded room in Gasson Hall on Friday night as colorful flags and golden balloons lined the front of the room. Students and faculty bowed their heads as Yvonne McBarnett, director of the Thea Bowman AHANA and Intercultural Center (BAIC), led a prayer to begin the Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month celebration. McBarnett’s prayer kicked off a lineup of speakers and performances to commemorate the first day of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, which is celebrated each year from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

The Thea Bowman AHANA and Intercultural Center (BAIC) held an opening celebration for Hispanic/LatinX Heritage Month on Wednesday showcasing the diversity and richness of cultures within the community.

The Thea Bowman AHANA and Intercultural Center (BAIC) filled the Gasson 100 banquet room with color and dance during the annual celebration Tuesday night.

Students logged onto Zoom on Thursday to celebrate Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, marking the beginning of a month-long celebration of the historical contributions made by Hispanic and Latinx individuals in the United States.
