False Fire Alarm Pulled, Property Damaged in Walsh Hall

Residents of Walsh Hall were evacuated twice on Sunday morning following alarms triggered by Michael Sorkin, CSOM ’21, who was arrested hours after damaging property in Walsh Hall, vandalizing Welch Hall with racial epithets, and assaulting a BCPD officer.

BC student Michael Sorkin, CSOM ’21, was named as the student arrested for damaging property in Walsh Hall, racist vandalism in Welch Hall, and assaulting a BCPD officer earlier that morning.

Student Issued Interim Suspension Over Racially Charged Vandalism, BCPD Assault, Walsh Hall Damage

A BC student was issued an interim suspension from the University on Sunday after writing racially explicit epithets in Welch Hall. In separate incidents, the student discharged a fire extinguisher and destroyed property in the Walsh Hall laundry room, and assaulted a BCPD officer.

While the room’s residents were not present at the time of the fire, they will be relocated to a different room for the remainder of the year due to the damage the fire caused.
